Reading Journal #3 (10/13/2009)

                                                      The  Giver

              The book of the Giver writen by Lois Lowry released in 1993.  By the chapter 12, the author described atmosphere of the community through Jonas’s circumstances . The biggest event of the community was held out in the auditorium on every December. The each group of the ages got assignments by the committee of elders. Jonas got the special assignments as Receievr of Memory which was so different from his group of 12 years , the most honored  and pain-taking job in the community.  He was trainning by the Giver to memorize about the whole world by transmitting. The memories which the Giver held alone could not be turning back  from the receiver after transmitting. As much as I read this book, I thought this society where Jonas lived seems like a kind of communitarian even though it was small. Many peaple have still  imagined , dremt ,and sought about Utopia in their ways through the memories of pain,sad,and fear. I thought the communism was built on from such ideas.  But when the Soviet Union collapsed, many people have realized Utopia where is the perfect place could not exist in the world. I don’t like to live in such community whose many rules controlled and affected to people’s lives because they could not have chances to change their lives determined too earier by others.

                                                   The Life of a Christian

         It is my pleasure to introduce one of my friends, Deaconess Jo, at the church named The Church of God.  Because, I admire her doing as a gospel worker with good deeds in faith wherever she is.  First of all, she knows that  the more important thing for Christans who are walking the path of faith with the hope for heaven is to put  the word into practice than  just to know the word of God and her every action exerts a great influence on the people around her, so that she makes every effort to do good deeds as just God did and in accordance of God teaching. For instance, she works hard silently behind. She prepares and serves some food or drinks for people in need between the worships. She looks after children in church and teaches people with the Bible. She always considers inventories what we need. Second, She tries to conduct herself in a holy and godly manner as true Christian. We learn in many parts of the Bible, God has given us teaching about how to speak. Therefore, she speaks with love what is helpful for building others up according to their needs. She speaks gracious and touching words what can lead many people to salvation as wise children of God. In addition, She is dedicated, perserverant , stable, loyal , patient  and diligent as a gospel worker. She preaches diligently in love of God. For example, she goes preaching  whenever she has time after her job as a mother such as doing house chores and taking care of her children. In sum up, Living is as  children of God, we must resemble God’s nature. She is a one of examples how to live as a Christian.

                          Medical Examiner : Anne Le Was Suffocated

              The  article “ Police Await DNA Tests on Evidence Taken from Yale Lab Technician”(CBS News 9/16/2009), by correspondent Randall Pinkston,explains that A Yale graduate student was found stuffed in the wall of a research center had been suffocated, the medical examiner reported as police awaited DNA tests on evidence taken from a lab technician ,Raymond Clark III, who worked in the building.  DNA was taken more than 150 pieces collected from him at the crime scene on the campus. Police said that they will not comment on a motive but say as soon as they have sufficient evidence and they will make an arrest. I chose this article to study vocabularies  and understand clearly because  I have to present  the listening  of   WTOP News  chosen by the  teacher in the listening & speaking class  including explainging  vocabularies tomorrow .   I had listened to the news  more than 20 times to catch every details but I got frustrated on it  So I decided to read the article to understand the whole story from the other website related with the story even though I was not interested in such a crime story . Listening such a news with special words used in the news is hard to me . Eventually I got vocabularies from  this article . I hope the  reading  jurnal  can help me when the presentation comes to me tomorrow.

                                                           Money

Some  people  believe that  more money can buy happiness .   I disagree with these people.   Because  the king  Solomon in The Bile said that  Life was  vanishing and nothing  even though he was a king and had every things whatever he wanted .  For example , he had  plenty of treasures and wisdom ,women, children, houses, horses, wagons.. .. but  they couldn’t give him continuous  happiness .  After searching and experiences about most of  happiness  that people thought normally, He realized that  anything in the world was not more precious than to get eternal life.  I agree with that .  Human life is short  so people have mind to love eternal life after the life on the earth.   When we see the leaves shaken  on a  branch of a tree  we can know there is a wind   so  we can know existing of spirit. In conclusion,  anything  in the world  including money can not  give you happiness.

                                 The Sabbath

The books of Gen.2:1~3  ,  Ex.20:8 , say  the sabbath is the seventh day so the Biblical sabbath is saturday but not sunday.   The books of Mark . 16:9 , Luke 24:1~8 , testify the sabbath day is the seventh day because the jesus’s resurrection occured on ” the first day of the week ( sunday ) “   some of Christan history book say  Sunday observance  was found  at 321 to put the Load’s day on the same level observance as the pagan festivals.  furthemore, when we look up the word ” sunday” in the dictionay, it is defined as the the first day of the week.  The book of ex.31:13~14, say ” You must observe my sabbath. This will be s sign between me and you for the generations to come”  The books of Luke4:16, Acts.18:4,  Acts17:2~3, say that Jesus and his disciples kept the sabbath . The book of Ezek.20:12~13,says  God gave a warning that his wrath would remain on those despising his law and decrees,breaking his Sabbath.  After reading those chapters of the Bible,  I thought I must keep the sabbath even though most churches worship on sunday because I rather follw God’s command than the custom made by men , and I knew what is God’s will.
